Map for Week 1
23 March: Liz and Leslie Reporting: Today was really different from the other days. We started out going to the National Gallery of Great Britain, on Trafalgar Square. It was a really beautiful day so the walk over was not too painful, and we got to see a few London landmarks, if only from a distance. And instead of Greek art, we looked at more contemporary paintings. Professor Christesen, Peter, and Elizabeth each chose a work of art to analyze, and then we split up into teams of two and analyzed paintings of our choice. It was all very interesting. After lunch, we went back to our home away from home, the BM, and practiced a similar exercise on a piece of Greek art. Peter led us on a little tour about some Cycladic and Mycenaean art. For dinner, we all met in Russell Square Park and held a discussion concerning whether or not the British Museum should return the Elgin Marbles to Greece. We pretty much decided that they should be able to keep them. The weather was beautiful and it was very nice to be outside for a change. This day was a nice break from 24/7 at the BM, and also a nice chance to see a bit of London.
