Antonia Syson’s undergraduate education was at Magdalen College, Oxford; she received her PhD in Classics from U.C. Berkeley in 2003, and comes to Dartmouth after teaching Latin literature at the University of Chicago. Her teaching interests range widely in Greek, Latin, and English literature. Her research centers on Latin literature of the late republic and early empire. She is currently completing a book entitled “Reading for the Novel: Fiction and Transformation in Vergil’s Aeneid.” Her areas of enquiry are fiction, narrative, and rhetoric; she is now planning a new project on metaphor and authorship in Latin literature.
