Ariane Schwartz received her B.A. and M.A. in Classical Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005 and will receive her Ph.D. in Classical Philology from Harvard University in November 2011. Her dissertation, “Horace and His Readers in Early Modern Europe,” shows how the early modern manipulation of Horace’s poetics and philosophy helps us understand the ancient world. Her current work focuses on Augustan poetry and its influence as well as the history of reading and material texts.
