This week you will analyze the coordination compound that you synthesized last week. You will determine the weight percent cobalt in in your sample by colorimetry. You will also determine the weight percent water in your sample by observing the change in sample mass when the water is driven off by heat. Key Questions Here are some questions to think about before, during, and after this week's experiment. Why do you convert your cobalt complex to the [Co(SCN)4]2- ion? What is the purpose of this chemical transformation? What is the greatest contributor to the uncertainty in the gravimetric analysis? In the colorimetric analysis? How can the uncertainty be reduced? What sort of impurities might your synthesized complex contain and how would they effect your results? | |||||||||||
