Testing Effluent pH
Image 1
Use a glass rod to pick up a drop of effluent from your column.

Catch a drop as it elutes, rather than taking one from the flask.

Image 2
Put a piece of pH paper on a clean watch glass.

Put the drop of effluent on the pH paper.

Compare the color of the paper to the scale on the package, to determine the pH.

To avoid contamination of your effluent, always take the solution to the paper, rather than the paper to the solution.
