Comparisons of FPI winds and scintillation drifts observations

The file below contains a comparison between Arequipa FPI neutral wind measurements and the Ancon scintillation drift measurements.

The file contains all measurements from April through October 1996 - but note that both instruments did not necessarily make simultaneous observations each night.

The two instruments are separated by about 6 degrees latitude (about 600 km). The west looking FPI measurements observe the same longitude as the Ancon instrument (at altitude 325 km); the east looking FPI measurements are offset 700 km from the Ancon longitude. However, there is generally little difference between the FPI measurements in the two directions for this dataset.

The Ancon scintillation drift measurments are indicated by crosses on the plots;

the Arequipa FPI measurements are indicated by the letters "E" (for east-looking) or "W" (for west-looking), with attendant error bars.
