Dartmouth Centers Forum

The Dartmouth Centers Forum (DCF) seeks to respond to growing political, ideological, social and intellectual dissonance in the academy and society. We hope to create an enabling environment for constructive thinking and open dialogue campus-wide about current issues of the day. Activities include faculty research and curricular enhancement seminars, public events, and facilitated student dialogues.
Each academic year the DCF chooses a theme upon which to base its programming. This year’s theme is Conflict and Reconciliation. The aim of this theme is to emphasize reconciliation as a method to resolve conflicts no matter what their causes. Learn more about the theme here and through the link in the sidebar.
Since its founding, the DCF has coordinated programming on three other themes. In 2007-2008, we partnered with the Hopkins Center for the Arts on its theme of Class Divide which focused on contemporary meanings and perceptions of “class” as well as on the current relevance of “class” as a term of political and social analysis.
In 2006-2007 our theme was Freedom and Technology. The events in this series examined the nexus of freedom and technology to better understand how humanity and technology may best interact and coexist.
Our first theme was Religion and Politics. The purpose of this theme was to examine the consequences of the intermingling of religion and politics on issues such as democracy, civil and human rights, the boundaries between public and private realms, the roles of governments and individuals, and the separation of church and state.
The Dartmouth Centers Forum always welcomes the participation of the entire Dartmouth community in addressing its programmatic themes.Conflict%20and%20Reconciliation.htmlshapeimage_2_link_0
