Areas of Expertise: Ecology of disease

Member, Health-Environment Interactions Group, Center for Environmental Health Sciences at Dartmouth

Research: Kathryn Cottingham's scientific projects focus on the temporal dynamics of ecological systems. Her research interests include aquatic community and ecosystem ecology, quantitative ecology, environmental monitoring, and the environmental persistence of Vibrio cholerae. She seeks to understand what causes fluctuations in natural populations, communities and ecosystems, and to apply this understanding to improving both environmental and human health. Her current projects combine field experiments and simulation modeling to determine how aquatic communities respond to and recover from disturbance, especially anthropogenic perturbations.
