The Elizabeth Mine Community Advisory Group (EMCAG)
is made up of representatives from ten community groups that
represent a wide range interests and concerns. The EMCAG meets
regularly with representatives of EPA and the Vermont Agency
of Natural Resources to discuss the cleanup.

EMCAG Member Groups:
Citizens
for a Sensible Solution is an unincorporated association
of Strafford and Thetford residents committed to making sure the
cleanup and restoration of the Elizabeth Mine site are proportional
to the size of the problem and that the concerns of all affected
members of the community are taken into account.
The
Elizabeth Mine Non-Residential Property Owners are property
owners who do not live on or near the site.
The
Elizabeth Mine Residential Property Owners live at or
near the mine site, and are concerned about the effects of Superfund
on residents' homes and daily life. Health and safety issues, noise,
traffic, dust, drinking water supplies and the general disruptions
will affect us, our property values and our neighborhood for an
indefinite period of time. Decisions about the final outcome of
the clean up will permanently affect us.

The
Elizabeth Mine Study Group is a largely volunteer effort
by local citizens. It was formed in 1996 to restore the environmental
health of the mine area and affected waters while preserving the
mine's unique history. The Study Group has conducted studies and
produced reports on the mine, and educates the public about and
encourages their participation in the cleanup.
The
Elizabeth Mine Survivors is a group of people who live
on or near the mine site who have concerns about the health affects
of the mine. The Survivors have been very active in raising health
issues and ensuring that health considerations are a primary factor
in choosing a cleanup alternative.
The
Thetford Conservation Commission is a group of citizens
appointed by the town selectboard to advise the board and the town
on issues relating to the natural and environmental resources of
Thetford. Efforts include the gathering of pertinent data, education,
outreach and the support of local efforts to respond to pressing
environmental matters.
The
Thetford Selectboard is the governing entity for the
town of Thetford.
The
Strafford Historical Society is a nonprofit organization
established for the purpose of "preserving the sites, records, relics
and related materials pertaining to the history of the Town of Strafford."
It was incorporated in 1955 and currently has about 160 members.
The
Strafford Planning Commission reviews local development
projects to ensure that all aspects of a project comply with local
subdivision, transportation, safety and fire regulations. The Commission
also is involved in town planning town and reviews building site
plans.
The
Strafford Selectboard is the governing entity for the
town of Strafford.
