All three post-doctoral programs at CECS involve the in-depth pursuit of research on a specific problem, under the mentorship of one or more CECS faculty. Current work within the CECS includes studies of patients' decisions when confronted with complex and uncertain medical choices, the processes and potential biases in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, the distribution of health care resources across hospital market areas, issues in the delivery and payment of care to geriatric patients, the impact of managed care on patient outcomes and costs, primary care for children, and methods to continually improve patient outcomes and satisfaction with care. Investigators within the CECS include physicians, nurses, epidemiologists, economists, sociologists, psychologists, decision analysts, medical geographers and statisticians. Clinical areas of particular interest include cardiovascular disease, the spine, osteoporosis and prostate disease. The CECS is committed to collaborative research based on the use of diverse methods and interdisciplinary approaches and to understanding the primacy of the patient in the rational use of health care.
The CECS offers three formal post-doctoral programs:
