Dartmouth CB/ACO 1997-98 Tournament Schedule :

President : Ben Sternberg '99
Vice-President : Scott Bogard '98
Secretary : Stu Davidson '98
Treasurer : Ajinkya Mukhopadhyay '99

Oct. 11, 1997 : BU Crimson Puppy Chow (Junior Bird)
  • "Dartmouther Earth": Amir Katz, Malini Mukhopadhyay, Dave Castleman, Vincent Leung (5-3): Lost in the quartfinals to a talented Harvard team.
  • "Dartmouther Goose": Tom Leatherbee, Andy Cahill, Matt Lazar, Ritika Nandkeolyar (4-5)
  • "Dartmouther Teresa": Tim Danford, Chris Pearson, Brian Landry-Wilson (3-5)

Oct. 18, 1997 : Cornell Big Red Royal Rumble IV
  • Dartmouth "Sadists": Ben Sternberg, Ajinkya Mukhopadhyay, Scott Bogard, Dave Castleman (4-6)
  • Dartmouth "Masochists": Andy Cahill, Malini Mukhopadhyay, Ritika Nandkeolyar, Matt Lazar, Michael Bern (4-6): Way to go freshmen! Head to head they kicked our butts.

Oct. 25, 1997 : MIT Beaver Bonspiel IV
A quick note: this tournament was marred for us by automotive incidents. For details, check out our "Worst Accidents" page. Kudos to the freshmen.
  • Dartmouth "Kyle": Ben Sternberg, Ajinkya Mukhopadhyay, Scott Bogard and Stu Davidson (5-3): After going 1-3 in the morning, the team went 4-0 in the afternoon when 4th player Ben showed up, and beat a Harvard team with (now Jeopardy! star) JJ Todor. We lost to eventual finalist Swarthmore in the quarterfinals.
  • Dartmouth "Stan": Brian Landry-Wilson, Andy Cahill, Tom Leatherbee, John Snavely (4-4): Great performance turned in by the freshman, one of whom was only available during the afternoon (again, thanks to automotive difficulties). Tom arrived late, in the wreck, and turned out to be Dartmouth's top scorer. Way to go!
  • Dartmouth "Cartman": Malini Mukhopadhyay, Michael Friesner, Matt Lazar (0-8) : Three freshman played valiently, it just wasn't their day. It was a twosome all morning.
  • Dartmouth "Kenny": Vincent Leung, Ritika Nandkeolyar (0-8): Oh my god, they killed Kenny. Two lone freshmen. If heart counted, they would have won the tournament. MIT coach Jim Bales complimented them on their positive attitude.

Nov. 15, 1997 : Ivy League Champsionship at Harvard
  • Dartmouth "Smartmouth": Ben Sternberg, Ajinkya Mukhopadhyay, Dave Castleman, Tom Leatherbee (5-3)
  • Dartmouth "Heartmouth": Malini Mukhopadhyay, Andy Cahill, John Snavely, Michael Friesner, Matt Lazar (3-5)

    Nov. 22, 1997 : Princeton Invitational
  • Dartmouth: Ben Sternberg, Ajinkya Mukhopadhyay, Malini Mukhopadhyay, Scott Bogard (5-3): Didn't make the playoffs, but we beat eventual champion Swarthmore in the first round, getting at least some revenge for our loss at MIT. The rest of the day went down from there.

Jan. 23-24, 1998 : Penn Bowl 007 at University of Pennsylvania
  • Dartmouth A: Ben Sternberg, Ajinkya Mukhopadhyay, Malini Mukhopadhyay, Tom Leatherbee (9-6): Close losses to BYU, Maryland C and Harvard A (three of the four playoff teams from our bracket) kept us out.
  • Dartmouth B: Dave Castleman, Chris Pearson, Andy Cahill, Matt Lazar (4-11): The young 'uns had a great Friday, beating eventual semifinalist Michigan A. Then they had a lousy Saturday. It happens.

Feb. 7, 1998 : NAQT Sectionals (Boston University)
  • Don't even ask. I'm not going to list teams, names and wins/losses. We all just sucked that day.

Feb. 21, 1998 : CBI Regionals (Region 1, held at Northeastern University)
  • Dartmouth: Ben Sternberg, Ajinkya Mukhopadhyay, Chris Pearson and Brian Landry-Wilson: We won out bracket, beating out MIT and BU. We beat Williams in the playoffs. The rest, we shall express in a (my) poor translation of Heine - "It is an ancient story, that remains forever new/To whom it has just occured, it breaks one's heart in two." In English, we lost to Harvard in two games. But with no previous CBI experience from any of the players attending, we look forward to returning next year and doing better.

Feb. 28, 1998 : ACF Regionals at Yale
