Submitting Homework

You will have to follow strict rules for naming your homework or else I will not know which files go with which students. You will need to zip each of your homework assignments into a single compressed file. This will mean I get exactly ONE file from each student and that the amount of disk space needed will be minimized.

You should name your files using this format: Lastname_Firstname_HWn.zip, where 'n' is the homework number

Please follow these naming conventions carefully. Using other names will likely result in mass confusion.

Below are the instructions I was sent on how you can use blackboard to transfer your files.

As usual... please let me know of any problems you might have.

DIRECTIONS FOR SUBMITTING HOMEWORK

Compress Files on Windows

  1. Obtain a trial version of Winzip and install it on your system, if you do not already have it installed. This will allow you to create (and open) .zip files. It is available on Wilson (at Dartmouth) and directly from the Winzip web site.
  2. Drag your folder containing your homework onto the Winzip icon and follow the directions on screen to create a .zip file with your homework inside it. This is this file that you will submit.

Compress Files on Macintosh

  1. Use the built in archiving ability in OS X to create a zipped file.
  2. Control-click on the folder with your homework. In the popup menu you see, select "compress [filename]" to create a zipped file of the folder.

Submit Compressed File Through Blackboard

First, connect to Blackboard. Connect to the assignment section of the Blackboard site by clicking on the "Assignments" link on the left of the screen. Click "View/Complete Assignment: Homework #n" (where 'n' is the number of the homework assignment you want to submit).

You will be taken to a new form that allows you to add comments and attach a file to be submitted. To attach your homework file, press the "Choose File" button and select the homework file you want to submit. Please make sure that it has a three letter suffix so that Blackboard will not mess it up!

Finally, you can submit the file by pressing the Submit button at the bottom of the page.
