Name of Trial: ACCOMPLISH - A prospective, multinational, multicenter, double-blind, randomized, active-controlled trial to compare the effects of Lotrel (amlodipine/benazepril) to benazepril and hydrochlorothiazide combined on the reduction of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with high risk hypertension.

Description of Trial: The purpose of the study is to compare how well two different medication treatments work and how safe and well-tolerated they are for patients who have hypertension. The two treatments are as follows:
Lotrel, which is amlodipine and benazepril in combination Benazepril and hydrochlorothiazide in combination. More specifically, this study will examine which of these two treatments is better in delaying fatal (deadly) and non-fatal heart related events, as well as kidney complications and stroke.
All of the drugs used in this study, whether alone or as combination therapy, are approved for use in the US by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of high blood pressure.
