The CHaD Half Marathon & Relay
Saturday, August 25

Go the extra mile for the kids at CHaD, the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth!

With the success of its inaugural event in 2006, the CHaD Half Marathon has already cleared itself a permanent date on the running calendar. The scenic course, evening format, and post-race block party featuring live music and bbq make the event a unlike any other in New England. Add to this the charm and beauty of Hanover, New Hampshire, the history and prestige of Dartmouth College, and the fun of a gently rolling downhill course and it's easy to understand the enormous buzz that this event has generated. Please join us for the 2007 event!
This fundraiser and race challenges runners’ to raise $150,000. All proceeds from the event will support CHaD’s efforts to bring world class medical care to the children of New Hampshire and Vermont, and reach the Dartmouth Green in Hanover, NH by sunset.
New this year!! Support CHaD without running 13.1 miles. Form a Half Marathon relay team! The relay component breaks the 13.1 mile course into 3 legs allowing runners to work together to reach the Dartmouth Green by sunset and raise money for CHaD.
The funds raised from this event go to programs at CHaD that are not paid for by medical insurance reimbursements such as the CHaD Family Center, The Child Life Program, CHaD's Injury Prevention Center and the new CHaD perioperative space. Without the support of fundraisers like the CHaD Half Marathon & Half Marathon Relay, programs like these can't exist.
Register as a runner or Volunteer ( Registration page) and visit CHaDkids.org to learn more about these programs!
This is an event you don't want to miss and CHaD is a great cause!!

Winter Fest on Lake Morey -Sunday Jan 7, 2007, Fairlee, VT

CANCELLED DUE TO NO ICE and NO SNOW

Northern Stage Theatre : Ushering through May 2007
boxoffice@northernstage.org

Northern Stage is a professional theatre company with shows starting in October through April. Ushers are needed for each show, if you haven't ushered before you will be trained before the show starts. You need to arrive one hour before show time and wear a white top and black bottom. Contact Northern Stage for more detailed instructions.
They are also looking for new House Managers! House Managers are responsible for coordinating communication between the Box Office, ushers, and the Stage Manager in order to get all show duties accomplished, late comers sat, problems solved, and the house open on time. While there are few additional duties to that of an usher, it does take confidence to give the ushers a briefing to explain any differences for the show, and to be willing to approach a complaining patron and bring them to the box office. If you are interested in learning more about this and/or willing to give it a try, please get in touch with me!

Pentangle Holiday House Tour, Saturday December 9th, Woodstock, VT

It is that time of year to mark your calendar for Pentangle's Wassail Weekend Holiday House Tour on Saturday, December 9.

While you have your calendar open, please also mark Tuesday, November 28 at noon, as it is the Welcome Luncheon for all House Tour volunteers. Stoaked Off Road Triathlon
Saturday August 12 and Sunday August 13
Storrs Pond, Hanover, NH

This is a big event and sounds interesting. Lots of volunteers are needed for Parking, Registration, Refreshments and Time Keepers (Something for everyone). Because of vacations and other issues, please contact Chad directly to help. We've worked with him in the past and it has been fun.

Let him know as soon as possible what you are interested in and when (or he can send you more detailed information) as there are some pre-race meetings in Hanover.

Contact Chad Denning or call Chad at 603-526-6401 to sign up.

Held at the Storrs Pond Recreation Area in Hanover, New Hampshire, the weekend's races will be split into 2 levels of competition. The first, held on Saturday, August 12th, will consist of a ½ mile swim in beautiful Storrs Pond, a 6 mile mountain bike ride on the trails of the local recreation area, and then finish with a 3.1 mile trail run. The second option for adult competition, taking place on Sunday, August 13th, will be a Nissan Xterra Point Series race and will feature a slightly more difficult course. Sunday's race will feature a ¾ mile swim, followed by a 12 mile mountain bike ride finished with a 4 mile trail run.

The competition is open to athletes of all ages and athletic ability, so shake off that dust and get over to the Storrs Pond Recreation Area for some healthy outdoor fun! And if that's not enough to get you up and moving then how's this… Immediately following Saturday's race will be a POST RACE PARTY featuring great food and Vermont's best selling craft beer, Long Trail Ale!

Now, we all understand the basic makeup of a triathlon, but what does 'Offroad' mean? The 'Offroad' style of this race refers to the journey athletes take across dirt path trails not usually used in traditional triathlon races, which means that athletes will be mountain biking instead of road racing, and trail running instead of running across pavement or dirt roads! Take all this into account and this is sure to make for quite an exciting set of races!

Held at the Storrs Pond Recreation Area in Hanover

Saturday Breakfast for the Seniors
Saturday July 22

We'll be making breakfast for the senior citizens at Roger's House in Lebanon. This is a great project for you early birds as we'll be starting at 7:30 a.m..
We will set up the tables, cook up the breakfast, serve and clean up for around 40 senior citizens.

Menu, supplies, food all supplied by Lebanon Housing Authority.

When: Saturday July 22, 2006: 7:30 a.m.

Where: Roger's House-Lebanon, NH. Building to the right of City Hall (if facing the front steps) on the green in Lebanon.

Tubing and BBQ Sunday July 16th, 2006 3:00-6:00 pm.
We had a great time last year tubing down the river (eagle spotting, bridge swinging, cooler tipping, rapids (ha ha) running) and then relaxing and eating.

Tubing starts at 3:00 p.m.- Picnic at 5:00 p.m.

If tubing meet at Erwin Clifford Park in West Hartford, VT. at 3:00 p.m. From there we will carpool to the tube drop-off location.

Please RSVP by Saturday, July 15 at 5 p.m. if you would like to rent a tube for you for $5.00 to $10.00. You are welcome to bring your own tube for floating. When we "land" at Clifford Park (around 5 pm) we will have a potluck picnic.

The White River should be great this time of year, nice and refreshingly cool. Bring plenty of (plastic bottled) drinks while you lazily drift down the river in one of the best upper valley summer rituals. You do not need to be a swimmer to enjoy, but of course there will be times you will need to get in/out of your tube in the river.
Recommended for maximum tubing enjoyment are waterproof sunscreen, old sneakers or secure sandals (sometimes you have to portage your tube and the river is rocky) and comfortable clothes over a bathing suit (the tube can rub on bare skin and if you bottom out the rocks can be dirty).

SVUV will provide hot dogs, condiments and paper goods. Participants please bring a salad or dessert to share and your own grilling items other than hot dogs if you wish and your own non-alcoholic beverage. We will have coolers to keep your salad or dessert cold while we are tubing.

For those interested in just the picnic, meet at Clifford Park at 5:00 p.m.

Erwin Clifford Park Directions: Travel on Route 14 west out of Hartford to West Hartford, about 6 miles from the Rt. 5/Rt. 14 intersection in White River Junction. Turn left onto the Quechee/West Hartford road, crossing the White River via the West Hartford Bridge (metal bridge with construction next to it). Then turn left on Westfield Dr. and left again on Recreation Dr. Then follow the brown signs to Clifford Park. Public parking is available at the end of Recreation Dr. in the parking lot. Restrooms, tennis court, horseshoe pits, family picnic areas with grills, boating and fishing access, playground equipment, baseball/softball field, basketball 1/2 court, and nature trail.

A winner and runner-up were selected from each school to have their play professionally produced at Northern Stage, allowing them to learn about directing, acting, design, and much more!
