Interacting with Groups

Faculty using Blackboard may choose to have Students use Groups within Blackboard. Depending upon the approach used by the Instructor, Faculty may choose to :

Note: Please consult the course syllabus and check with your Instructor regarding the role of Groups and Group expectations within your course.

Quick Start Tutorial

An Instructor may choose to allow students to self-enroll in groups. Self-enrollment empowers students to choose your group membership. In order to become a member of a group, it will be necessary for you to Sign Up on one of the group Sign Up Sheets.  

The instructions here-in outline how students enroll in a group using a group sign up sheet.

To Enroll in a Group:

The link available to you will vary depending upon Instructor preference. If none of the following options are available consult with the course Instructor.

a. Tool Link in Course Menu

    • Click on Tools.
    • Click on Groups.
    • Click View Sign-up Sheet or Sign Up.

b. Groups Link in Course Menu

    • Click on Groups.
    • Click View Sign-up Sheet or Sign Up.

c. Sign-up Sheet Link

    • Click Sign-up Sheet link.
    • Click Sign Up.

Accessing Groups

Once a group or series of groups has been created, a Student can access and interact within a group from the My Groups area. Located under the main Course Menu, the My Groups area calls out each group the student may be assigned to within a course making it easier for the student to access the group tools.

To Access a Group:

  1. Click on the My Groups menu located directly under the Course Menu.

    • File Exchange
    • Group Discussion Board
    • Send Email
    • Group Homepage
    • Customize Group Banner
    • Customize Group Color
  3. Click on the group tool you wish to view/access..
