Upgrade to Blackboard 7 - Text editor

This change affects both instructors and students.

New in Blackboard 7 is a text editor which is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh computers. The text editor is a toolbar reminiscent of a Microsoft Word toolbar, which appears above every editable text area. Instructors will encounter the text editor whenever they post anything to Blackboard. Students will interact with the text editor when they post to the Discussion Board or the Assignment Manager, or when they take a Blackboard test or survey.

The text editor is not compatible with the (Macintosh) Safari browser. We urge Macintosh users to use the latest version of Firefox with Blackboard 7. Download the latest version of Firefox.

The text editor works through a java applet, which loads into the web browser. The first time this applet is loaded, you will have to wait a few seconds, and accept the installation of the applet. When prompted "Do you want to install and run signed applet distributed by Blackboard?", click the Grant Always button.

To explore the text editor's functionality, briefly rest your mouse on the toolbar buttons in order to see a brief description of each button's purpose. The tiny triangles along the left side of the toolbar allow you to expand or collapse the three rows of buttons in the text editor toolbar.
