Workshop Overview

This website was designed for use in the Biomedical Libraries' in-class "Web Searching Tips and Techniques" workshop. It can be used as a stand-alone tutorial, as well, but lacks the elaboration, examples, clarification, and guided practice of the in-class workshop. When you follow links from these pages, you will leave the tutorial. Please use your browser's "back" button to return.

The purpose of this workshop is to help make your searching on the web more accurate and efficient. We will review the differences between directories and search engines, define search engine components, compare features of various Internet search engines, and pinpoint search strategies and techniques. We offer tips on subject-specific alternatives for locating sites of interest - as well as quick access to popular search engines and directories. Finally, we will discuss how to evaluate websites you find - and cite them in research papers.
