These are the power point slides for the 3 day work shop that NCBI provided as an introduction to the genetics information resources. Though they still refer to the outdated "LocusLink" resource occasionally, the slides are still useful for a review. Don't try to go through it all. Just pick and choose... a little bit at a time.
NCBI Advanced Workshop for Bioinformatics Information Specialists
These slides are from the week long advanced course on NCBI information resources. They assume knowledge of the info prsented in the introductory level course. Again, be selective about what you look at ... if it seems too obscure, don't waste a lot of time with it. Try to use the resource to expand in areas that you are already familiar with. It might be considered a future resource to meet your growing awareness of the genetics resoures, but maybe not something for the immediate.

The Nucleic Acid Research Journal put out a database issue for January 2006 and a Web Server issue in July 2005. Look at these issues for detailed information on new online genetic related developments.
