Campus Resources:

Getting Started
A guide to using a personal computer at Dartmouth.
www.dartmouth.edu/comp/support/library/start/index.html

The Campus Network
An extensive campus network provides members of the Dartmouth community with access to email, the internet, printers, and other resources on the network.
Connecting from On Campus - Wireless or Ethernet, Windows or Macintosh. www.dartmouth.edu/comp/support/library/connect-on/index.html
Connecting from Off Campus - Dialing in with Windows or Macintosh. www.dartmouth.edu/comp/support/library/connect-off/index.html

BlitzMail
BlitzMail is Dartmouth's email application. It is available for Macintosh and Windows systems. Your BlitzMail password was sent to you before or soon after your arrival on campus. You should change it the first time you log in. See BlitzMail basics www.dartmouth.edu/comp/support/library/software/email/blitzmail/blitz-intro/ , and download from www.dartmouth.edu/comp/resources/downloads/

The Dartmouth Name Directory
Everyone in the Dartmouth community has an entry in a database called the Dartmouth Name Directory (DND). This is your Dartmouth email (Blitzmail) name and password and is your key to access a wide array of computing and library resources and services. www.dartmouth.edu/comp/about/policies/email/dnd-name-password.html

Authentication at Dartmouth
Authentication is the process of verifying your identity. In order to protect critical business data and verify you are eligible to access some of Dartmouth's resources, Dartmouth currently uses four systems. It is expected that PKI certificates will become the standard in the coming years. Resources requiring authentication include; library resources, student records and accounting systems, Blackboard, etc. See the authentication pages for more information. http://www.dartmouth.edu/comp/support/library/safecomputing/defenses/authentication/

Blackboard
Blackboard is Dartmouth's "course management system," a web-based environment in which instructors can create and maintain course web sites. www.dartmouth.edu/~blackboard/

Accessing Digital Information Resources
Digital information resources licensed by the Dartmouth Libraries may only be available to computers connected to the Dartmouth or DHMC computer networks. Off campus access may be possible using the Dartmouth Proxy Server or Virtual Private Network(VPN). More information is available on our access help page. www.dartmouth.edu/~biomed/resources.htmld/access.shtml

Public Computers
In addition to the computers in the Biomedical Libraries, there are clusters of public Macintosh, Dell, and UNIX computers available at many locations around campus. www.dartmouth.edu/comp/resources/facilities/clusters/index.html

Public Printing
Public laser printers are available in both of the Biomedical Libraries. See www.dartmouth.edu/~biomed/services.htmld/cms/printing.shtml for set-up info. Printing on the campus is managed by GreenPrint, Dartmouth's distributed printing system. GreenPrint is a quota system with each student credited a set amount of printing money each term. www.dartmouth.edu/comp/resources/equipment/greenprint/

Public Scanning
Both of the Biomedical Libraries provide a public access scanner. Several other campus resource centers also maintain scanners for use by members of the Dartmouth community. One of the photocopiers in each of the Biomedical Libraries also supports scanning to email. www.dartmouth.edu/comp/about/policies/facilities/scanners.html

Site-licensed Software
Dartmouth provides site-licensed software, through the Keyserver, for use by members of the Dartmouth community. This software ranges from commonly used desktop applications to fairly specific research applications. There are limited number of "keys" for each application and time limits on use. www.dartmouth.edu/comp/resources/downloads/using-keyaccess.html

Publishing on the Web
Any member of the Dartmouth community can request and receive a web account on www.dartmouth.edu. Once the account is approved, you can create web pages and upload them to your account. www.dartmouth.edu/comp/about/policies/general/webaccts.html

Helpful Information:

- Certain versions of the Microsoft Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office applications for Windows and Macintosh are available for purchase by students for $20 per application. Norton AntiVirus software CD is available for $6. See Computing Sales and Service. www.dartmouth.edu/comp/resources/facilities/store/

- The Dartmouth College and Medical Center campuses have close to 100% wireless coverage.

- When using public workstations remember to close your Kerberos ticket to prevent others from accessing your accounts.

- The Biomedical Libraries Web has many helpful pages on using campus resources. www.dartmouth.edu/~biomed/

- The Dartmouth Digital Library has information on all of the Dartmouth libraries and information resources. library.dartmouth.edu/about/

- The Dartmouth College Computing Services web site contains information on all of Dartmouth's computing resources. www.dartmouth.edu/comp/
