According to the website maintained at Georgetown University Medical center, the resource now contains over "283 000 sequences covering the entire taxonomic range. " The Universal Protein Knowledgebase is a project, funded by U.S. National Human Genome Research Institute to create a central database of protein sequence and function by joining the forces of the ExPASy and PIR.
