Protein Information Resource (PIR) provides a collection of retrieval and analysis tools for the identification, annotation, and analysis of proteins. According to the website maintained at Georgetown University Medical center, the resource now contains over "283 000 sequences covering the entire taxonomic range. " The Universal Protein Knowledgebase is a project, funded by U.S. National Human Genome Research Institute to create a central database of protein sequence and function by joining the forces of the ExPASy and PIR. This resource should be available within the next several months. http://www.pir.uniprot.org/
