Changes for Biomedical Libraries Journals and Databases in 2010

Like other departments in the College and Medical School, the Biomedical Libraries have been asked to cut the budget for Fiscal Year 2010. See Bill Garrity’s article in the July 2009 issue of The Pulse for more information.

The budget reduction, coupled with continued 6-8% annual inflation rates for books, journals, databases, and other information resources, leads us to make some difficult cancellation decisions. See below for details. Except where indicated, these changes will go into effect in January 2010.

The following factors were taken into account as cancellation decisions were made:

Other Notes

In addition to the above changes in journals and databases, we will buy fewer books in FY2010 than we did in FY2009, and may leave some print journals unbound.

We invite you to use our DartDoc service to borrow books and obtain copies of articles in journals unavailable through the Dartmouth libraries. It’s fast and convenient! DartDoc requests help us monitor the need for additional subscriptions. One note: while we do not currently charge you for obtaining articles through DartDoc, there are costs to the library to do so. Please, request only what you need.

Questions or comments? Contact Peggy Sleeth, Associate Director/Information Resources, margaret.k.sleeth@dartmouth.edu or 603-650-1635.
