This comprehensive web site brings together authoritative information from the National Library of Medicine, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations. Preformulated MEDLINE searches are included in MedlinePlus and give easy access to medical journal articles. MedlinePlus also has extensive information about drugs, an illustrated medical encyclopedia, interactive patient tutorials, and latest health news.
Well-Connected
Well-Connected is a
library of comprehensive and current reports on more than 100 medical topics.
The reports cover diagnosis, symptoms, risk factors, and prevention and
treatment options. To use this resource, your computer must be connected to the
Dartmouth College or DHMC networks; authentication of eligible users is by
network address. Well-Connected is also available in print at the
Matthews-Fuller Health Sciences Library.
MDConsult
In addition to being a
collection of medical textbooks and other resources for the health care
professional, MD Consult offers over 2,600 handouts written for the patient and
a section called, "What Patients Are Reading," which summarizes recent media
stories on health. MD Consult is available only to Dartmouth and DHMC/Lebanon
users connected to the Dartmouth or DHMC networks.
UpToDate
UpToDate is a clinical
information resource which offers up-to-date, fully-referenced expert answers
to patient-care, diagnosis, and treatment questions. Topic reviews are written
by recognized authorities who review the topic, synthesize the evidence,
summarize key findings, and provide specific recommendations. (Access
Restrictions: UpToDate is licensed for on-site use only at Dartmouth
College, Dartmouth Medical School, and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
Remote access is not permitted.)
eMedicine Consumer Health Web
Includes information on the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of nearly every type of disease and
health condition. Also includes information on physical and emotional well-being and general
wellness, as well as information on symptoms and treatment of common accidents and physicial
injuries. Includes drug recalls and alerts and a medical dictionary.
Familydoctor.org
Developed by
the American Academy of Family Physicians. Includes information on 500
condition-related and disease-related health topics, drugs, herbal and
alternative remedies, and healthy living. Available in Spanish, as
indicated.

HealthWeb
HealthWeb is
a collaborative project of the health sciences libraries of the Greater Midwest
Region (GMR) of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) and those
of the Committee for Institutional Cooperation. Currently there are over twenty
actively participating member libraries. This project is supported by the
National Library of Medicine (NLM) under contract with the University of
Illinois at Chicago.
