Copyright Term Extension (H.R. 2281, S. 505)- Part of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (important for all institutions)
Adds 20 yrs to Copyright Term
- Author owned equals life plus 70
- Publisher owned, first of 95 yrs from first publication
or 120 years from creation
- Exemption for Libraries/Archives during last 20 years IF the work is not commercially available at a reasonable price to copy and distribute for preservation, scholarship and research
Effect: Freezes Public Domain for published works copyrighted after 1922 for another 20 years.
