Graduate student Lauren E. Culler was award the Federation of Fly Fishers LaFontaine Scholarship ($2,500). Lauren and her advisor, Professor Brad Taylor, are investigating the effects of climate change on stoneflies, a popular fly used for fishing and a species-rich order of aquatic insects that are found in mountains streams and an ecosystem that is highly susceptible to human-induced climate change.
Elizabeth Wolkovich won a Graduate Student Filene Teaching Award.
Lauren Culler received 2nd place in the student competition for the President's Prize at the Entomological Society of America meetings earlier this week. Her oral presentation was titled "The potential contribution of larval Agabus (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) for mosquito suppression in constructed wetlands" and was based on her M.S. research with Bill Lamp at the University of Maryland.
