Undergraduate Programs in Astronomy/Astrophysics

The department offers an undergraduate major, as well an astronomy minor. Astronomy 15 is the first course in the astronomy major or minor and provides students with a general introduction to astronomy. Further details about the course requirements for the astronomy major and minor are found on online in the ORC, along with course descriptions.

Students taking astronomy courses beyond A15 benifit from small class sizes and close interactions with the astronomy faculty. Although the department does not offer a regular off campus program, astronomy major students are encouraged to take A81 which generally involves a one to two week observing session at Dartmouth's MDM Observatory in Arizona.

Students with a general interest in astronomy who do not have a strong background in physics or math are encouraged to take Astronomy 1, 2/3 and/or 4.
