Welcome to my personal web page. I’m using this site to get out the word about various organizations and causes I support. I would also like to provide some information for those of you who have questions or are interested to learn more about Scientology. If you have comments or more questions, let me know. You can contact me at jda@dartmouth.edu. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy my page!
Scientology Volunteer Ministers help in many different locations and in different fields. From helping provide relief for those who have experienced trauma to working with survivors of natural disasters to overcome emotional stress, Volunteer Ministers are focused on community service and helping others above all else. Many VMs worked on the ground after Hurricane Katrina, the London bombings, the tsunami in Southeast Asia, and at Ground Zero.
Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is an organization that works to expose psychiatric abuse and provide the facts about so-called “mental disorders.” The truth is that there is NO conclusive test that can show a chemical “imbalance” in the brain; both the World Psychiatric Association and the APA (American Psychiatric Association) admit of this! Rex Cowdry, director of the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health acknowledged, “We do not know the causes [of mental illness]. We don’t have the methods of ‘curing’ these illnesses yet.”
Illnesses become listed in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) through peer consensus—NOT physical tests. Did you know that homosexuality appeared in the DSM as a mental disorder until gay activists picketed the APA in 1973? “Negrotism” also used to be listed in the DSM as a “disorder” among slaves who wished to escape from slavery! The labeling of these two “disorders” became so controversial that they were removed from the manual.
CCHR is very important to me, as I have seen the effects of psychiatric drugs on some of my family members and friends. There are things in life that can affect us negatively and conditions that seem too hopeless and difficult for us to control. Psychiatric drugs are not the answer, for they do not handle but rather mask the problem. There are too many stories of suicide, violence, and negative changes in personality that accompany the use of these drugs. Check out www.woodymatters.com for one such story, and be informed about what these drugs can actually do.
See also www.woodymatters.com for more information in this area.
I did the Purification program about 7 years ago. The program rids the body of drugs and toxins—even ones like pesticides and smog in the air. By following an exact program of exercise, vitamin supplements, and sauna time, you actually sweat out drugs and toxins your body stores in its fat cells over the years. As these accumulate, bodily senses can actually be dulled. After I finished the program, I was amazed at how much better and clearer my vision was and how much healthier I felt. I had SO much more energy!
Drugs can also change one’s personality long after the drug is actually put into the body. If you’ve ever known somebody who smokes a lot of marijuana, they probably have a slower reaction time and always seem a little “out of it.” One of the reasons is because marijuana, among other drugs, is stored in the bodies’ fat cells long after use and can continue to affect a person and their personality!
The Scientology religion is a religious philosophy. The word comes from Latin “scio,” which means “knowing in the fullest sense of the word,” and Greek “logos,” for “study of.” Some of the tenets of the Church are that man is a spiritual being, that he is essentially good, and that his happiness depends upon himself, his relationships with others, and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.
In Scientology, the spirit is called the thetan, or life force. It is not separate from you; it is you. By addressing the thetan, Scientology aims to help the individual better his own life and conditions so that he can be happier, more able, more ethical, and helpful to his fellow man.
I have been a Scientologist for about six years, and have had so many positive results in my own life. One thing I’ve learned and applied is the idea that an individual is cause over all things in his life, even those that affect him negatively. I used to come up against barriers and get frustrated or find fault with others. But the truth is that we are all capable of changing any situation, no matter how difficult. Whenever I apply this, I know I can work through and be cause over all parts of an argument, a problem, or anything that seems difficult. I began seeing problems as games to work through instead of being overwhelmed or feeling at effect, and this has helped me SO much in my friendships, work places, and in school!
Another thing I like is the Scientology principle that something is true only if it is true for YOU. There are no dogmatic teachings or faith required to be a Scientologist. You can think about the principles and apply them; if you don’t think it is true for you then that is fine. Tools are offered for you to use, and you can choose whether or not you want to use them. In my experience, the more I have used, the better and happier I’ve been.
Finally, I think Scientology makes me more ME. It’s so easy to get caught up in what other people think or to follow opinions and advice that isn’t your own. Scientology has helped me to recognize and trust my own integrity and keep my own counsel. I have become much more self-aware and self-determined as a result.
For those of you who know me now, it would probably be hard to imagine that I used to be shy and introverted until about 7 years ago. Since then, through Scientology I have become so much more confident, energetic, outgoing, and happy!
If you would like more information about any of these organizations or about Scientology, please send me an email at jda@dartmouth.edu. Thanks so much for visiting my page!
Much love,
Julia
