Is the COS system fair?

Dartmouth goes to great lengths to ensure the fairness of all COS proceedings. Students or organizations charged with violations have the right to see all of the evidence against them, and to call witnesses. The COS is scrupulous about conducting hearings in a way that protects the rights of all participants and according to procedures described in the Student Handbook.

The Undergraduate Judicial Affairs Office (UJAO) provides an annual report to the Dartmouth community on the work of the COS at the end of each academic year.  The report is made available electronically to all students and other members of the community with Dartmouth e-mail directory addresses.  Copies are also available upon request to the UJAO.  Dartmouth is one of very few institutions nationally that provide a report to their community of this nature.  It includes numbers of cases and brief descriptions of violations and is intended as a means of educating our students about both the system and the standards of conduct.
