This silver didrachm (SNG ANS 2), featuring the jugate heads of the Dioscuri, was struck in Bruttium (modern Calabria) between 215 and 213 BCE. It shows marked similarity with the earlier and later depictions of the Dioscuri on Roman coins.
The jugate heads on the obverse are surely the Dioscuri, identified by the stars above their heads. The youthful style of their faces and hair is very similar to the Dioscuri on the Roman quadrigatus.
The reverse type, depicting the Dioscuri on horseback, was appropriated on the later denarius coinage of Rome.
