Transfer Credits for Currently Enrolled Dartmouth Students
Anthropology majors may transfer the equivalent of two course credits
(either or both of which may count toward their major), while non-Anthropology
majors may transfer one course credit (for either distributive or course
count). Under very rare circumstances, it may be possible for Anthropology
majors to transfer three course credits. To obtain approval for transfer credit
you must submit in hardcopy a copy of the syllabus and transfer credit form
(obtained from the Registrar's office) to the Chair or the Transfer Credit
Advisor, Professor Endicott.
Admitted Transfer Students
If you are admitted as a transfer student, you will be asked to submit your
final official transcript, course catalogs with completed courses clearly
indicated, and—if possible—syllabi to the Office of the Registrar so that
decisions regarding transfer credits can be made. These materials should be
forwarded to the Office of the Registrar at least five weeks before
registration for your first term at Dartmouth.
Credit will be granted only in circumstances where it is already granted for
students who matriculate as first-year students. Credit will not be given for
courses that are more elementary than those for which Dartmouth normally grants
credit (Pre-calculus, for example) or do not fall within the liberal arts
(Bookkeeping or Marketing, for example). Credits given by the original
institution prior to matriculation also will be evaluated according to
Dartmouth standards. Certain departments or programs, however, reserve the
right to restrict the granting of transfer credit.
