Air does not absorb xray beams, so areas filled with air, such as the bronchial tree, appear black in a CRX. Although the lungs appear somewhat black, there are a lot of white "streaks" within them. These streaks represent structures within the lungs, such as branches of the bronchial tree and pulmonary vessels.
