MRI: Coronal knee (image 1 of 2)  

The next two MRIs show the knee in the coronal plane. This image is roughly in the middle of the knee joint, and the next image is more posterior. These images are T2-weighted, however the fat signal has been 'suppressed' making structures containing fat appear dark.

1. femoral condyles

2. tibia

3. medial and lateral menisci

4. articular cartilage

5. synovial fluid


6. anterior cruciate ligament

7. posterior cruciate ligament

8. medial collateral ligament

9. vastus medialis and lateralis
