| AP knee | |||||
The patient is in a supine position with the knee extended. Three bones comprise the knee joint, the femur, tibia, and patella. Notice that the joint space appears large because the menisci and cartilage are not visible on a plain radiograph. In patients with degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis), there is often narrowing of the joint space due to the loss of cartilage. |
