AP knee, child

The image on the left is an AP view of a child's knee, that on the right is of an adult.

In children, injury to an epiphyseal plate is especially worrisome because the fracture may devascularize the epiphysis and lead to growth disturbances.

In the radiograph of the adult knee, the bones have reached maturity and the epiphyseal plates have ossified. These epiphyseal scars indicate the prior position of the epiphyseal plates.
