This image and the following one are sequential axial CTs of the neck that were taken with contrast enhancement. Intravenous contrast is administered to patients when CTs are performed to evaluate the soft tissue structures of the neck. This allows for the blood vessels to be easily distinguished from adjacent muscles and lymph nodes. Note how much brighter the blood vessels appear than the adjacent tissues. |
