CT: Neck (image 1 of 5)  

This image and the following ones are selected axial CTs of the neck; image 1 is the most superior, and image 5 the most inferior. These were obtained with contrast enhancement. Intravenous contrast helps to distinguish blood vessels from adjacent muscles and lymph nodes, by making them higher attenuation.


Identify the following:

1. submandibular gland

2. epiglottis

3. vallecula

4. left sternocleidomastoid

5. platysma

6. prevertebral muscles

7. right internal carotid artery

8. right internal jugular vein

9. right external carotid artery

10. left external jugular vein
