Taking part in a class act
Eighty percent of the Dartmouth Class of 2007 made donations to the Senior Class Gift, breaking the old participation record of 73 percent held by the Class of 2006. Eleven organizations in Dartmouth's Coed/Fraternity/Sorority community boasted 100 percent participation, and every member of the Senior Executive Committee, which steered the gift, participated.
The students raised $15,145. Gifts from parents and friends brought the total to $23,326. With an additional $80,000 from alumni challengers Barry MacLean '60 Th'61, Brad Evans '64, Peter Fahey '68 Th'70, Ed Haldeman '70, and Karen Francis '84, the total raised was $108,407. All the money goes toward financial aid for the incoming Class of 2011.
"The Class of 2007 has truly shown its spirit with this achievement," says Dartmouth President James Wright. "I'm very proud of the students' support of Dartmouth. The College is also grateful for the generosity of the alumni who encouraged the students with their challenge."
