Kunal Arya ‘12
Kunal is leading two Economics 39 study groups for Professor Irwin’s class. He is majoring in Economics and Chemistry and he participates in the Dartmouth Business Journal, SEEDS, EMS, and Ultimate Frisbee. Kunal has been involved with internships at the Delphi Corporation and Henry Ford Hospital, and has also completed fellowships through the Rocky First Year Fellowship program and The Dartmouth Institute. Kunal has become a study group leader because he likes working through problems with the students since it helps keep the material fresh.
Derek Brand '09
Derek is leading a study group for Professor Curtis' Economics 1 class. He is an Engineering major interested in Humanitarian Engineering. He is also a writer for the World Outlook Undergraduate Journal of International Affairs. He has had internships with Tristate Financial (asset management), Cue Ball (venture capital) and The Parthenon Group (consulting). He found out about the Tutor Clearinghouse when he joined a study group, and likes to lead study groups because "teaching the material has helped [him] gain a deeper understanding of the subject." An interesting fact about Derek is that he stretches five times a day.
Natalie Burkhard ‘12
Natalie is leading a Math 8 study group. She is majoring in Engineering with Math and is participating in the Dartmouth Endurance Racing Team and marathon training. Natalie will also be involved with the Women in Science Project: “Self-Orgnanizing Networks of Agents” with Professor Reza Olfate-Saber in this coming winter and spring. Natalie states that working through the Tutor Clearinghouse reinforces her understanding of the subjects.
Mike D’Andrea ‘12
Mike is leading a Physics 13 study group. He is a Physics and Cognitive Science major who participates in the DSE After-School Science Program. Mike found out about this job opportunity at the Tutor Clearinghouse through his own Physics 15 study group leader.
Maxwell David ‘12
Mawell is leading a Psychology 21 study group for Professor Tse’s class. He is majoring in Economics and Psychology, and is currently involved with the Boxing Club, Model UN, and the Leadership Development Program. In the past summer, he worked at an IT consulting firm in Manhattan. Maxwell discovered the Tutor Clearinghouse by being in a study group last year for Economics 1.
Jonathan Erdman '12
Jonathan is leading a Chemistry 57 study group for Professor Hughes' class. He is undecided on his major. He writes and takes photographs for The Dartmouth, is a member of College Democrats, and likes skiing and table tennis. He would like to work in a lab during his time here at Dartmouth. Jonathan was recommended to work with Tutor Clearinghouse by his psychology professors. He loves lobster, but dislikes "Chicken Mondays" because there is no surprise. His favorite TV shows are Lost and Scrubs.
Emily Jasinski ‘10
Emily is leading a Psychology 24 study group for Professor Funnell’s class. She is majoring in Psychology and Human Development & Education, and is in the Elementary Teacher Education Program. Emily is involved with the Aquinas House, Reading Brains Lab, Lego League, and PAL. She was a counselor at Happiness is Camping for Children with Cancer, an intern at the National Center for Learning Disabilities, and an educational intern at The Children’s Village. Emily discovered the Tutor Clearinghouse when she joined a study group in her sophomore summer. She enjoys getting up early, grabbing a cup of coffee, and enjoying a book or newspaper before getting to work in the morning. Emily says she has re-learned so much material through tutoring and study groups, as if helps her keep the information fresh in her brain.
Aimée Le ‘12
Aimée is leading two Psychology 1 study groups. She is planning on majoring in Psychology and AMES or film, and is involved with Soul Scribes, Women’s Rugby, and Women of Color Collective. Aimée thinks Tabasco sauce on onion rings is delicious and likes to sit in the very front row at movies and crane her neck upwards to watch the film.
Jun Liang ‘12
Jun is leading two Economics 10 study groups for Professor Giummo’s class. He is majoring in Economics and Math, and is involved with the Ultimate Team and the Dartmouth Business Journal. Jun also works at the Department of Economics for Professor Samwick. He gets 10 hours of sleep everyday. Jun heard about the Tutor Clearinghouse through a blitz and others who have done it.
Jessi Merry ‘12
Jessi is leading two Government 5 study groups for Professor Brooks’ class. She has not declared a major yet, but is planning on majoring in Government, with a minor in Public Policy. Jessi is currently involved with Dartmouth Model United Nations, the Generations Project, the Dartmouth Law Journal, and the Dartmouth Coalition for Global Health. She was a summer intern in the chambers of the Honorable John Mott, where she worked with the judge’s staff to prepare case files every day and write briefs for the judge. Jessi likes watching West Wing, going to museums, and listening to country music.
Yitong Mou ‘11
Yitong is leading two Chemistry 5 study groups for Professor Pletneva’s class. He is a Biophysical Chemistry and Economics major who participates in the Dartmouth Fencing Team, Dartmouth Asian Organization, Dartmouth Badminton Club, and Dartmouth Chinese Culture Society. On campus, he has had a Howard Hughes fellowship working in the cardiology department. He learned about the Tutor Clearinghouse when he was recommended by his Math 11 professor. Some benefits he has received through the work he has done in the Tutor Clearinghouse include getting to “meet great new people and help them”, and “review[ing] material which [he] probably would’ve forgotten otherwise.”
Kunal Patel ‘11
Kunal is leading one Chemistry 51 study group for Professor Wu’s class. He is a Biology and Economics major who participates in Club tennis, NSS, and the Daffodil Days program, was well as being the ST.LUKE president, a volunteer at DHMC, and a teacher of elementary school math. On campus, Kunal has had a Howard Hughes fellowship, and has been an intern at Cedars Sinai Institute in LA. He discovered the Tutor Clearinghouse by noticing the “we need more study group leaders” fliers. Kunal loves to make himself breakfast foods for dinner, calling them “brinner.” He loves to see “how dedicated other students are to their work”, and he feels “it’s wonderful to watch someone who truly wants to succeed do well.”
David Qian ‘11
David will be leading a study group for Professor Hugh’s Chemistry 57 class. He is a Chemistry and Economics double major who participates in the Chamber Orchestra, Math Society, and he conducts Chemistry Research. David has a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellowship and likes to go to the gym early in the morning. He found out about the Tutor Clearinghouse on the internet.
Ammar Siddiqui ‘11
Ammar will lead a Biology 12 study group for the class with Professor Smith. He is a Chemistry major with a Biology minor. Ammar is involved in SAPA, EMS, DHMC volunteering and Al Nur. He was also a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellow. Ammar learned about the Tutor Clearinghouse through blitz, and likes leading study groups to “learn test-taking strategies.” He also notes that “A small amount of studying can go a very long way if utilized correctly.” One interesting fact about Ammar is that he can cook Indian food.
Mayuki Shimizu ‘12
Mayuki is leading a Math 13 study group. He is majoring in Economics and Mathematics and is currently involved in Men’s Club Soccer and Dartmouth Broadcasting, where he is the DJ for 99 Rock. Mayuki participated in the German LSA in Berlin and has completed an internship at the Monitor Group. He discovered the Tutor Clearinghouse by attending a great study group previously. Mayuki never fails to watch an episode of “Entourage” or “How I Met Your Mother”. Although this is the first time he is working at the Tutor Clearinghouse, I hopes to learn together with the group in a friendly and interactive environment.
Gregory Troderman ‘12
Gregory will lead a Math 8 study group. He is a Math major who participates in Rocky Vox Masters, Billiards, and Badminton. Gregory had an internship during Summer 2008 at the Institute for Health Metrics. He enjoys doing proofs at 1 A.M.
Natalie Young ‘10
Natalie is leading an Astronomy 2/3 study group for Professor Brown’s class. She is majoring in Anthropology and Government and is currently the Secretary of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, a Mentor Against Violence, and a member of the Dartmouth College Democrats. Natalie interned at the City of New Orleans Office of Recovery and Development Administration in the winter of 2008 while also conducting field research for her senior honors thesis in Anthropology. This past summer, she was also a research intern at the Institute for Women’s Policy Research in Washington, DC. Natalie was contacted by the Tutor Clearinghouse about acting as a study group leader as a result of Professor Brown’s recommendation.
