The ASC has seen many structural changes in a short amount of time with the
addition of several new staff positions as well as a change in focus from
solely academic skills to the incorporation of a variety of related areas which
include disabilities services, a rapidly growing Tutor Clearinghouse, and
increasing involvement with athletic teams.
The ASC is a dynamic institution and will continue to develop in order to
best suit the needs of the students. Carl Thum will continue to implement
new programs in an effort to reach the maximum number of students on campus and
to reinforce the ASC’s role as a valuable resource for every Dartmouth
student.
As Academic Advisor/CHAMPS Life Skills Coordinator, Meg Hancock would
like to see a continued effort to inform student-athletes of the many resources
on campus through individual meetings as well as workshops and programs
specifically designed to fit with the schedules of first year student
athletes. She also hopes to begin conducting workshops/programs that
would occur yearly or bi-annually on topics of interest student athletes (i.e.
nutrition, stress management, career planning, alcohol/drug awareness, etc.) as
well as occasional discussions for individual teams. There is also a hope
to receive an NCAA Alcohol and Drug Prevention Grant to develop an ongoing
Alcohol and Drug Prevention program specifically targeted at
student-athletes. The ASC will continue to do everything possible to
further the aim of supporting student-athletes as they juggle the demands of
rigorous academics and Division I athletics.
The ASC will continue to grow and evolve, seeking out new ways to serve
students at Dartmouth College, building relationships with individuals, and
helping them to develop a lifelong pursuit of active learning.
