Access Project
A project team made up of Nancy Pompian, the Student Disabilities Coordinator, Ellen Young, Sarah Horton, Warren Belding, and Rob Johnson from Computing Services have put together a proposal that would bring adaptive technologies and accessible Web design to Dartmouth. The proposal is aimed at establishing technology support for people with disabilities that would tie into Dartmouth's distributed campus computing infrastructure. The proposal also addresses the need for accessibility online, and suggests models for developing guidelines and establishing campus-wide support for universal design practices on the Dartmouth Web.
The Access Project has received the approval of Computing Services and is currently a principle focus of the department's diversity goals. It also figures prominantly among Academic Computing's strategic goals. The campus-wide 504/ADA Committee has also approved the proposal and has offered to help finance the program. We are currently working with Computing Services, the Academic Skills Center, and the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity to identify the personnel required to support the project.
