Using Cars for Center for Service Programs

Driver Approval Process

To become a Center for Service approved driver, you must first compete the college Driver Safety program, which includes:

  1. Filling out an application (pdf) below, also available at the Center for Service
  2. submitting a copy of your driver's license, and
  3. completing an online Driver Safety Program

If you are interested in becoming certified to drive an E-350 van, a road test is required and can be scheduled through the Transportation Office once you have completed the Driver Safety Program.

After completing the College Driver Safety Program, you must schedule a time to come to the Center for Service to complete some additional training and paperwork in order to drive for one of our programs. Please email dcs.cars@dartmouth.edu to schedule this final, 15 minute step. 

This whole process must occur even if your program intends to use a personal vehicle.

Reservations

Only drivers certified by both the College's Driver Safety Program and the Center for Service may reserve Center cars, and they must be used for a Center for Service program.

  • Online reservations must be made AT LEAST 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE.
  • Reservations made less than 24 hours in advance must be made in-person, at the Center for Service.
  • Student directors and program chairs may submit term-long reservations for recurring weekly car needs by submitting a special form available at the Center for Service.
  • Weekend reservations must be made by 3 p.m. on Fridays. NO RESERVATIONS WILL BE PROCESSED ON WEEKENDS.

Please note:

  • You do not have a reservation until you have received an email confirming it!
  • Vehicles will be held for no more 15 minutes after the start of the reservation.
  • All cars must be returned by 11:00 p.m. unless otherwise arranged with the Center for Service.
  • You must cancel your reservation if you will not need the car after all.  Instructions for how to change or cancel a reservation are in your confirmation email.
