The Dartmouth College Housing Programs Office manages approximately 280 apartment, duplex, and house rentals, most of which are in Hanover. The primary purpose of this housing is to provide transitional accommodations for new employees.
Administrative, staff and service employees may reside in College rental housing for up to three years. Faculty members on a tenure-accruing track may stay until a tenure decision is made. Faculty and staff who remain in College housing beyond these terms pay a rental surcharge.
Employees interested in rental accommodations must apply with the Housing Programs Office. A waiting list typically exists for College housing. Vacancies are offered on a "first-applied, first-offered" basis, subject to eligibility priorities detailed in the College's Housing Policies.
Pets are permitted in some rental units. However, no rental may have more than 2 pets and there is additional rent due for each pet.
A one month security deposit and lease of one year are required in the majority of College rental housing. Exceptions: 1) The apartments located on West Wheelock Street (17, 19, 25, 25 1/2, and 27 West Wheelock Street). An open-ended lease term is offered at these locations. However, a 60 day notice to vacate is required. 2) The purchase of a home in the local market will allow for an early termination of the one year lease agreement. A 60 day notice to vacate is required along with proof of purchase.
