Sachem Village, located off of Route 10 in West Lebanon, is a rental housing community owned by Dartmouth College that is intended primarily for married/partnered graduate students, a significant number of whom have children. Plans were advanced to redevelop graduate housing at Sachem Village to both improve the quality of Sachem’s existing housing and create a net increase of rental units. Phase I of the Sachem Village redevelopment project was completed in 2006 and replaced 39 older units with 125 new rental units.
Phase II is underway and includes the demolition of 40 units and the construction of 20 new residential buildings with a total of 80 rental units. New residential units include nine duplexes, four handicap-accessible triplexes, and seven townhouses, with a mix of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units. Phase II also includes the construction of a biomass heating plant and an addition to the existing Community Center. With the completion of Phase II, which is scheduled for the summer of 2008, Sachem will include a total of 255 rental units, 205 of which will be new construction. Graduate students will have priority for the units, although units may also be offered to employees.
