With the start of the New Year, Dartmouth’s Presidential Search Committee is actively interviewing candidates.
Dartmouth’s Board of Trustees has announced its intent to name a new president in spring 2009. President James Wright announced in February 2008 that he would step down after Commencement in June 2009.
The search process has been “as transparent as possible and as confidential as necessary to draw the strongest prospective candidates,” said Chair of the Presidential Search Committee Al Mulley ’70.
Mulley, who is also a Trustee, joined Board Chair Ed Haldeman ’70 and Trustee Jose Fernandez ’77 in early December to brief members of the Alumni Council who were meeting in Hanover.
“We are way ahead in terms of the quality of the pool at this point,” Mulley said. “We refer frequently to the main points articulated in the Presidential Leadership Statement, and we continue to emphasize what is distinctive about Dartmouth,” he said. The individuals in the pool are “highly regarded” and have “direct leadership experience.” Mulley added that timing of the search process is on track for an announcement in the spring.
