In the modern era, it was John Kemeny who made Dartmouth a world leader in college computing. With his colleague, Thomas Kurtz, Kemeny designed a time-sharing system and wrote the language BASIC. As president of Dartmouth, Kemeny led the school to the forefront of academic computing.
