After 18 months of construction and several years of planning, we are thrilled to be opening the new Class of 1953 Commons for fall term. Thanks to the tremendous generosity of the Class of 1953, DDS will be offering new and healthier dining options, while hosting more people under one roof than ever before. We will be 25% more energy efficient as a result of the renovations, and will produce only a fraction of the landfill waste. We are also happy to offer several new social spaces for student gatherings and activities, including the main dining room, which can be converted into student event space. We also look forward to opening a 24 hour student lounge and a multi-purpose meeting and performance space this winter.
The new ‘53 Commons will be operate as an all you care to eat venue including more choices than ever before. DDS will continue to operate Collis, Courtyard, Novack and East Wheelock. Together, these venues provide dining services 19 hours a day, through 28 meal opportunities a week, from the first day of the term to the last day of exams. The new SmartChoice dining plans that go into effect fall term allow students to choose one of three combinations of meals-per-week and declining balance dollars , which can be used in any of the DDS venues. A DBA only plan for students living off campus is also available. SmartChoice enables us to provide the widest range of options for all students and, because its cost structure is in sync with our financial aid offerings, it will ensure that every student can afford to make healthy choices.
