Using Your Own Web Server
Computing Services has restrictions on running a Web server on a personal or departmental computer. (You must, of course, conform to the College's guidelines for publishing data of any kind.) We recommend you consider the following before starting your own Web server:
- Be sure to obtain a static IP address for your Web server or use some scheme for obtaining a static domain name.
- Be sure any material you post on the server is suitable for world wide consumption. Even if the server is intended for internal use, it will be visible to the entire Internet if an outside person knows the address/name of the server.
