What are the benefits of the IdM Project?
The short-term benefits are primarily “back-office” oriented and include modernizing the technology to manage identities in a more flexible manner. We will integrate IdM with Dartmouth’s student information (Banner) and human resource (HRMS) systems to automate identity information-flow across key systems. Improved data quality and synchronization will mean fewer glitches and faster resolution of events such as name changes, role changes, and reactivations.
Once the project is completed, you’ll begin to use a network identity (NetID) which will provide a simpler way to access computing resources, and you’ll gain more robust, self-service password management tools, including the ability to reset forgotten passwords. You’ll also notice longer-term benefits such as increased security, more automated and efficient ways to access systems, and increased ease of use, including fewer login methods to access computing resources.
