Congratulations on your decision to attend Dartmouth! This Web site contains important information about computing at Dartmouth, including the computer ownership requirement for incoming students.
Please read the information provided very carefully and remember to make your selection on the Web site no later than August 13, 2008. You must sign in at www.dartmouth.edu/bannerstudent, even if you are not ordering a computer at this time, to let us know you are deferring your decision. This year we are offering home deliveries on computers. However, models change frequently and if you ask for home delivery you will receive the current model at the time of your order. We know, for example, that Dell will be announcing an upgrade in the summer and recommend that you pick up your Dell when you get on campus to ensure you get the latest model available.
You can bring a computer from home, but we encourage you to take a look at what you get when you buy from Dartmouth. Many students who bring a new or used computer from home have difficulty getting them set up for our network, even though the computer appears to meet our specifications. You will avoid these difficulties if you buy from us. We offer preconfigured Apple and Dell computers at educational prices that run on our network right out of the box. These packages also include all the software, cables, and security devices you will need to use our network. And you can have any computer you buy here serviced under warranty, so you won’t have to ship it off campus.

Computer Ownership Requirement
Dartmouth requires all incoming students to own a personal computer and it must work on the Dartmouth network. You will use your computer for electronic mail, to register for classes, submit assignments, search library catalogs, reference the World Wide Web, and more. The network and all of its resources are available literally from every corner of the campus, both wired and wireless. All laptops offered through the incoming student program are wireless enabled.
