Windows XP

Verify that the mirroring mode on your laptop display and your office display are identical. If you are not using your laptop with a monitor in your office, you can set this up in the SMART classroom during the break between classes.

  • On the keyboard, press and hold down the [Fn] key.
  • Repeatedly press the [F8] key until the image is presented on both the laptop display and the external monitor. (The cycle will include laptop only, external monitor only, and both displays.)

Adjusting the Laptop's External Display Resolution

  • Right-click while the mouse cursor is pointed at nothing on the desktop. From the menu that appears, select Properties.
  • Select the Settings tab.
  • In the Screen Resolution dialog box, drag the bar until 1024x768 is displayed below the bar.

Turning Off the Laptop's Power Management or Sleep Functions

  • From the Start menu, select Control Panels.
  • Select the Power Options Control Panel. 
  • Click the Power Schemes tab.
  • For all the Plugged In settings,  set them to never or to a time after your class ends. (Remember to change the settings back to their defaults after your class ends.)

Turning Off BlitzMail Notify and Other Reminder Functions

  • From the Start menu, select Dartmouth Network,then select BlitzMail Notify
  • Uncheck the BlitzMail Notification Active checkbox.

Power down the laptop.

Pack the monitor adapter cable (iBooks and PowerBook G4s only; not required for Dells). This cable adapts the output of an Apple laptop to a standard 15-pin VGA type connector used in all SMART classrooms. You must bring this cable and your Apple laptop to use in the SMART classroom.

Pack the power supply.
