Apple PowerMac G4 Towers

To make sure the computer operates properly for everyone using this classroom, please follow the guidelines below:

  1. If the image from the computer’s display is not projecting properly on the screen, make sure the resolution is set to 832x624 at 75Hz. If the Control Strip on the desktop is not expanded, click the Control Strip icon to open it along the bottom of the screen. Click the Monitor icon in the Control Strip. Select 832x624, 75Hz from the list.
  2. The computer has a Zip disk drive, not a floppy disk drive. (Zip disks hold 100-200 times more data than a floppy disk.) If possible, you should store the files you need for your class on a Zip disk. Then each time you use this classroom, or another SMART classroom, you can bring the Zip disk with you. If you have questions about using Zip disks, please contact your department’s computing support office.
  3. If you need to install an application or data file on the computer, you should do so in the hard drive partition named "Class Files." This is the section of the computer that does not change during the term, unless absolutely necessary. If there is a problem with the computer, we will try to correct it by reinstalling the software on the "Macintosh HD" partition. (If your files are in the "Class Files" partition, you will not lose your data when the reinstall is done.) If the problem is severe, we may need to reformat the entire drive. In this case, everything you have installed on the computer will be lost. Please use a Zip disk for storing the files you will need repeatedly on this computer. Your department’s computing support office can help you with this.
  4. If the computer is frozen, press the [Restart] button. (The picture on this button is a triangle.) It is located on the front of the computer, below the power light.
  5. At the end of your class, turn off the computer and take your Zip disk with you.
  6. If you experience problems with this computer that you cannot resolve, call 646-1155.
